His Majesty the King performs the official opening of the new H’ART Museum in the Dutch capital on Tuesday 18 June 2024. With this, King Willem-Alexander also opens the museum’s first major exhibition: Kandinsky. A collaboration between H’ART Museum and the Parisian art museum Centre Pompidou. One of the key partners of the new museum for the coming years that will also collaborate with the British Museum in London and the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington. With these new partnerships, H’ART Museum is building on the Hermitage’s tradition of bringing international art collections to Amsterdam. The Hermitage opened in 2009 in the presence of King Willem-Alexander, then Prince of Orange. The King will perform the opening ceremony together with the new generation of H’ART Museum students, who are following the museum’s renewed education program.
The Kandinsky exhibition opens to the public on Wednesday, June 19. On view until Sunday, November 10, 2024.
Kandinsky exhibition
Russian-born artist Wassily Kandinsky (Moscow 1866 – Paris 1944) takes center stage. Centre Pompidou holds one of the most famous Kandinsky collections in the world thanks to the generosity of the artist’s widow. Nina Kandinsky donated a large number of artworks and documents during her lifetime and left the contents of his studio as a bequest to France. Especially for this exhibition, a large number of masterpieces will travel from Paris to Amsterdam. More than 60 artworks provide a unique overview of Kandinsky’s oeuvre: a personal journey that made him one of the pioneers of abstract art.
