H’ART Museum Winter Festival offers a wide range of special activities, including concerts, films, and family workshops for museum visitors of all ages. The festival runs from Thursday, 19 December, until Sunday, 5 January. We kick off with the start of a new tradition: a light ceremony in our famous inner garden.

Ticket: The price for concerts and films is €7.50 per activity. Free for VriendenLoterij VIP-KAART
With a same-day exhibition ticket, you can buy a ticket for €2.50 to concert or movie at the museum on that day. These tickets are not available online.
Opening Winter Festival with Light Ceremony

On Thursday, 19 December, we kick off the Winter Festival with a special ceremony: the chestnut trees in the inner garden will light up. The vintage jazz band The Square Cats will provide the musical backdrop, followed by an immersive concert by the music collective Inneruu in the church hall. With visual projections, scents, and a wide variety of instruments, they create a space where you can participate playfully or simply be amazed.

17:00: Winter treats at the kiosk in the inner garden (free admission)
17:45: Performance by The Square Cats (free admission)
18:00: Light ceremony begins (free admission)
18:30: Performance by Inneruu in the Church Hall (ticket required)
NOTE: On this special opening, you have the opportunity to visit the Happy Birthday Amsterdam exhibition until 18:00 and the opening with a ticket for the exhibition.
Jazz concert by Ju Young Lee with Richard Nacinelli & Jelle Willems

In the summer of ’22, she captivated audiences at the Summer Jazz Concerts, earning high praise. Now, she’s back. The enchanting sounds of Ju Young Lee and her talented musicians Richard Nacinelli & Jelle Willems will warm you with the rhythms of South American and Brazilian jazz in our cozy winter setting. In addition to jazz, Ju Young enjoys improvising across various musical styles, including hip-hop, soul, and groove music.
Winter concert by Roza Herwig and Julius Backer

Mezzo-soprano Roza Herwig and pianist Julius Backer will present a theatrical concert with a festive program specially for our Winter Festival. This successful duo has performed at renowned venues such as the Concertgebouw, Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ, TivoliVredenburg, various festivals, and the popular show Podium Klassiek.
For the Winter Festival, the duo brings a specially curated program for these dark days. It promises to be an enthralling journey through music history, spanning from classical to cabaret. Songs by Schubert and Mahler stand alongside swinging tunes by George Gershwin and Wim Sonneveld. A program full of musical surprises, offering both smiles and tears.
Painting workshop for adults
- Dates: Saturday, 21 December, 28 December and 4 January
- Time: 13:00 – 16:00
During the Christmas holidays, there will be painting workshops for adults every Saturday from 13:00 – 16:00 in the H’ART Museum Studio. You’ll start with a guided tour of the Happy Birthday Amsterdam exhibition with a museum educator and then create your own artwork on canvas inspired by the exhibition. Throughout the workshop, the educator will provide tips and guidance. At the end, you can take your own artwork home with you.
Movieweekend from the 3rd of January until the 5th
Experience the enchanting atmosphere of our Church Hall while enjoying timeless film classics for young and old. For these screenings, we collaborate with partners such as Outdoor Cinema, Bora Bora, and the Eye Filmmuseum.
Fargo, 1996 (OV with Dutch subtitles) - with mini lecture

Set in Minnesota, the crime committed by car salesman Jerry Lundegaard unravels due to his own incompetence, the clumsy actions of his accomplices, and the persistent police investigation led by the unexpectedly pregnant Marge Gunderson.
Before the film, there will be a mini-lecture on the works of the Coen Brothers in collaboration with the Eye Filmmuseum, presented by Ronald Simons. Ronald is a film programmer at the Eye Filmmuseum and also a writer on film and the film industry. In addition to the monthly program Koolhoven & Simons, he has curated recent film programs at Eye, such as The Coen Brothers Complete and The Films of Kieślowski.
Singin' in the Rain, 1952 (OV with Dutch subtitles) - with mini lecture

Step back into the 1920s and discover the dramatic rise of silent film in Hollywood. The story follows a (silent) movie star struggling to adapt to the new era, while also navigating a blossoming romance with a chorus girl and dealing with his jealous co-star.
Before the film, there will be a mini-lecture on the history of silent film in collaboration with the Eye Filmmuseum, presented by Leenke Ripmeester. Leenke is the curator of animation and commercial films at the Eye Filmmuseum.
The Revenant, 2015 (OV with Dutch subtitles)

Travel back to the early 19th century and follow the story of a fur trapper on an expedition who fights for his life against the threatening winter conditions. The film is recognized as a masterpiece by the highly praised director Alejandro Iñárritu, who won multiple Oscars and Golden Globes for this film. Leonardo DiCaprio won an Oscar for his lead role as Hugh Glass.
